Hustler Fund payment not reflecting: what to do (Kenya 2026)

You repaid, M-PESA confirmed, but *254# still says the loan is open. The five real causes and how to fix each.

Five real causes

1. UI lag (most common)

The Hustler Fund core ledger updates in near-real time but the *254# session data can be up to 24 hours stale. Re-check the next day; the loan status usually flips to Closed by then.

2. Partial repayment

You paid less than the full outstanding amount (principal + accrued interest + any excise). The fund credits what you paid but the loan remains open. Check the *254# menu balance; pay the residual.

3. Payment sent to the wrong number

Hustler Fund repayment happens inside the *254# flow, not by sending money to a paybill. If you tried to send to a paybill, it likely failed or landed elsewhere. Repay via *254# then 4 (Repay) instead.

4. Auto-deduction failed (insufficient balance)

Your M-PESA balance was below the outstanding amount at the moment of the auto-pull. Top up above the outstanding, and the fund retries every hour for 24 hours from the due date.

5. Ledger reconciliation delay after a system incident

Rare. If the fund had a platform outage, batches of transactions may take 48 to 72 hours to reconcile. Watch the official Hustler Fund social channels for maintenance notices.

Recovery steps

  1. Save the M-PESA SMS. The 10-character reference is the only evidence you need.
  2. Wait 24 hours. Re-check *254# then 1 then 1 (Loan Status).
  3. File a complaint at hustlerfund.go.ke. Attach the M-PESA screenshot, your ID, and the loan reference.
  4. Email info@hustlerfund.go.ke. Cc yourself. Reference the complaint form ID once created.
  5. Call +254 719 064 000 if the delay drags beyond 5 working days.

Prevention

  • Keep M-PESA balance above the outstanding amount for 48 hours around the due date.
  • Do not repay via any paybill; use the *254# Repay flow.
  • Screenshot every deduction SMS and keep for 6 months.
  • Check status 24 hours after repayment, not 5 minutes after.

FAQ

How does Hustler Fund repayment normally work?

Repayment is automatic on the 14-day due date. If your M-PESA balance covers the outstanding amount at midnight on the due date, Hustler Fund deducts it. Manual early repayment is also available via the *254# menu.

Why does my *254# still show the loan after M-PESA showed the deduction?

The deduction posts to the Hustler Fund ledger but the *254# UI can lag 24 hours before reflecting. Wait 24 hours and re-check via *254# then 1 then 1.

What if the auto-deduction did not happen at all?

Your M-PESA balance was insufficient at midnight on the due date, or an M-PESA service outage prevented the pull. Top up your M-PESA above the outstanding amount; the fund retries every hour for the first 24 hours.

Where do I file a complaint?

hustlerfund.go.ke has a complaints form, or email info@hustlerfund.go.ke. Include the M-PESA transaction code, your ID, and the loan reference from the *254# menu.
