Wise
Mid-market FX, transparent fees. UK, US, EU, AU, CA.
Visit WiseSendwave is the small-send specialist for diaspora → Kenya. Flat-fee model often beats Wise on transfers under $200-300; direct M-PESA delivery, minutes for major corridors. This page is the verified reference — real fees, where Sendwave wins, where it loses to Wise or WorldRemit.
Sender abroad opens the Sendwave app (or sendwave.com), enters the KES amount or source-currency amount, sees the displayed FX rate and fee, funds via bank debit (cheapest) or card. Sendwave routes through M-PESA Global rails directly to the recipient's M-PESA wallet. The recipient sees an M-PESA Send Money SMS — no action needed on their side. Major corridors land within minutes.
Sendwave's pricing model is flat fee + FX margin. The flat fee scales by tier:
Fees and margins shift; always check the displayed quote in the Sendwave app before sending.

Visit SendvaluSender (in US, UK, Canada, Europe, Australia, or one of ~40 supported countries) signs in via the Sendwave app or sendwave.com, enters the KES amount or source-currency amount, sees the displayed FX rate and fee, funds via bank debit or card. Money lands directly in the recipient's M-PESA wallet, usually within minutes. No fee is paid by the Kenyan recipient.
Flat fee + an FX margin. For small sends (under $200 from US, under £100 from UK), the flat fee is often zero or KES 0-99 — Sendwave promotes this as their differentiator. The FX margin is typically 1-2% above mid-market. On bigger sends Sendwave's percentage advantage shrinks against Wise's percentage fee.
Sendwave wins on small sends (under $200-300). Above that breakeven point Wise gets cheaper because its 0.43% percentage fee scales better than a flat-rate-plus-margin model. For a $1,000 send: Wise ≈ $5 total, Sendwave ≈ $15-25 total depending on corridor. For a $50 send: Sendwave is often free or near-free, Wise is $1-2. The breakeven shifts with the corridor — our diaspora send calculator surfaces it.
They're close. Sendwave usually has better UX (single-currency-focused mobile app, instant on most corridors). WorldRemit covers more sender countries (~150 vs Sendwave's ~40) and offers more pay-out methods (cash pickup, bank deposit, airtime, in addition to M-PESA). For US/UK/CA → KES, Sendwave is typically faster and slightly cheaper.
Yes. Sendwave is a US-licensed money transmitter (acquired by WorldRemit in 2020, now part of the Zepz group). Regulated in all jurisdictions it operates in. Funds are held in segregated accounts. Sendwave has processed hundreds of millions of dollars to East Africa since 2014 with a strong compliance track record.
No. Sendwave is one-way: sender abroad → recipient in Kenya (or other supported African and Asian destinations). To send money FROM Kenya abroad, use Wise, your bank's SWIFT, or M-PESA Global. Our cheapest-way-to-send-from-Kenya comparison covers all three.
US → KES and UK → KES typically arrive within minutes once Sendwave processes the bank debit (sometimes a few hours on the first transaction from a new bank). Canada and EU corridors are similar. Card-funded sends are usually instant.
Because Sendwave is a sender-side service — there's no Kenyan-side paybill the recipient uses. Money lands directly in the recipient's M-PESA wallet via the M-PESA Global rails. The Kenyan recipient does nothing other than receive the M-PESA SMS. This is why Sendwave doesn't appear in our /paybills directory — it's not a paybill, it's a remittance app.
