Sendwave promo code: $5 referral, how it works

The Sendwave referral program pays $5 to both sides when the referred user completes a first qualifying send. That is roughly KES 640 at July 2026 rates. Below: where to enter a code, what qualifies, and the small print that decides whether the credit actually posts.

How the referral flow actually works

  1. Step 1

    Get an invite code

From a friend already on Sendwave: they tap Menu, Refer a friend, and share their unique code. Codes look like six-to-eight-character alphanumeric strings. There is no public master code; codes are tied to a specific existing user so the credit can post to both sides.

  2. Step 2

    Enter the code during signup

At the promo screen, before you add your debit card. If you miss it, tap Menu, Refer a friend, then paste it under "Got a code?" before your first send. Codes entered after your first send do not apply.

  3. Step 3

    Send $50 or more, cleanly

The qualifying send has to complete without reversal, refund, or fraud-flag clawback. Test sends of $1 or under do not count. Once the send lands in M-PESA and the 24-hour reversal window passes, both accounts receive the $5 credit as a fee waiver on their next send.

What is the $5 actually worth?

On a US to Kenya send, the $5 credit covers the flat $0.49 fee about ten times over, which is meaningful for anyone sending small amounts recurring. But it does not cover the FX margin, which is roughly 0.5 to 1 percent of the send amount.

Practical math on a $100 first send: without a code, all-in cost is about $1.48. With the credit applied to the next send: your next $100 send costs roughly $0.98 (you save the $0.49 flat, still pay the FX margin). Over 10 small sends, the credit is worth around $5 in total savings, matching the headline.

The 6 rules that trip people up

  1. Codes cannot be added post-signup after your first send. Enter during signup, or between signup and first send at the latest.
  2. Sends under $50 do not qualify. A $10 test send followed by a $100 real send still does not trigger the credit; the qualifying rule is first-completed-send-of-at-least-$50.
  3. Reversed sends do not qualify. If Sendwave later reverses your first send (fraud check, chargeback, regulatory review), the credit is clawed back from both sides.
  4. One code per household is enforced. Sendwave matches by device, IP, and payment instrument. Multiple accounts in one household using different codes to farm credit can be flagged.
  5. Credits expire in 90 days. The clock starts the day the credit posts. Use them on any send within that window.
  6. Codes are corridor-specific. A US invite code does not pay a UK signup, and vice versa. The referrer must be in the same corridor to receive their $5.

Other diaspora-Kenya referral programs

  • Wise: refer 3 friends, get a free transfer up to a set limit (varies by market). Better for larger sends given Wise's pricing curve.
  • Remitly: promotional first transfer with mid-market or near-mid-market FX. Value is front-loaded on the first send only.
  • WorldRemit: Sister to Sendwave. Similar referral structure, slightly different qualifying-send threshold.
  • TapTap Send: Occasional first-transfer fee waiver rather than a persistent referral bonus.

FAQ

How much does the Sendwave promo code pay?

In the 2026 US program, both sides receive $5 credit after the referred user completes their first qualifying send (usually $50 or more). That is roughly KES 640 at July 2026 mid-market. The credit lands as a fee waiver on the referrer's next send and as a bonus on the referred user's first send.

Where do I enter a Sendwave promo code?

During signup, on the last screen before you add your debit card. If you have already signed up without entering a code, tap Menu, Refer a friend, and add or paste an invite code there. Codes entered after your first send do not retroactively apply.

What counts as a "qualifying" first send?

A completed send of at least $50 that is not later reversed or refunded. Test sends of $1 or under do not qualify. Sends that fail KYC or that Sendwave later reverses (fraud check, chargeback) do not qualify either. The credit posts within 24 hours of a clean qualifying send.

Does the promo code work with any corridor?

Yes on US sends. UK and Canada sends have their own local programs with different values. Always confirm the promo terms in the Sendwave app during signup; the values above are the July 2026 US-corridor figures.

Can I use multiple promo codes?

No. One code per account, applied at signup or before your first send. If you accidentally used a friend's code and later realized a better promotion was live, Sendwave support cannot swap them after the fact.

Does the $5 credit expire?

Typically within 90 days of posting. Use the credit on any qualifying send in that window; unused credit is not refundable to your debit card. The countdown starts on the day the credit posts, not on your signup date.

Is there a maximum on referral earnings?

The public program caps referral rewards at a total per referrer per year (currently around $250 in the US). Beyond that, referrals still succeed but do not pay out. High-volume referrers can contact Sendwave partnerships for a proper affiliate program.

Do promo codes work with Wallet (USDC)?

No. The referral applies to standard remittance sends only. Digital dollars deposits to the Sendwave Wallet are a separate US-only product and are not counted toward the qualifying-send rule.
