About paybillke.

We publish M-PESA paybill and till numbers for Kenyan businesses and government services, with the account format each one expects and the steps to pay. We are not Safaricom, and nobody pays to be listed here.

What is on the site

A directory of 307 checked paybill records, covering the things Kenyans actually pay for: SHA, KPLC, water, school fees, DStv, banks, betting, county services and eCitizen. Each record carries the number, the account format M-PESA expects, the date it was last checked, and what to do when the payment does not go through.

Alongside it, 84 calculators for working out what a transaction or a deduction will actually cost you, and a library of step-by-step guides for the payments people get stuck on.

How a number gets published

A wrong paybill number does not fail politely. It sends somebody's rent to a stranger. So every entry is checked against the company's own published channel before it goes up, and the date of that check is printed on the record where you can see it. Where we could not confirm something, the page says so rather than guessing.

How we verify sets out the method in full: what the verified mark means, what its absence means, how often entries are re-checked, and what happens when a reader reports one.

Who writes it

Every article carries a named byline, and each writer has a page listing what they cover and what they have written.

How the site pays for itself

No paid listings. A business cannot buy its way into the directory, buy a better position in it, or buy the verified mark. That is the whole point of the directory being worth reading.

Where we earn, we earn from affiliate links on some money-transfer and financial product pages, and those are marked. A link never changes which paybill number we publish, because the number is a fact and not an opinion we are free to sell.

Tell us when we are wrong

Numbers change. Companies switch providers, counties move to new revenue systems, and paybills get retired without announcement. If something here is out of date or plain wrong, the fastest fix is to report the entry, which goes straight to the person who maintains it.
