How much does M-Pesa charge for sending KES 1,000?
Sending KES 1,000 via M-Pesa to another M-Pesa user costs KES 13. Paying a paybill (KPLC, banks) costs KES 10. Buy Goods (till) is free. Withdrawing at an agent costs KES 29.
Are M-Pesa fees the same in 2026 as 2025?
Largely yes — Safaricom's tariffs have been stable since the 2024 update. We update this calculator within 24 hours of any tariff announcement.
Why is sending to a Paybill cheaper than Send Money?
Paybill transactions are subsidised by the receiving business — they pay a portion of the cost as part of their merchant agreement with Safaricom. Send Money is fully borne by the sender.
Are till numbers (Buy Goods) really free?
Yes — for the customer. The merchant pays the M-Pesa fee for till transactions. This applies to all 5-7 digit till numbers (Lipa na M-Pesa Buy Goods).
Do these fees include excise duty?
Yes. The 15% excise duty (paid to KRA) is already bundled into the displayed M-Pesa fee — what you see is what you pay.
