Who can use Fuliza

  • You need a registered M-PESA account on an active Safaricom line, and you must opt in.
  • Accounts registered with a national ID, Kenyan passport or military ID can activate Fuliza.
  • Accounts registered with a foreign passport cannot opt in.
  • Opting in does not guarantee a limit. Safaricom says not everyone who activates is eligible for one.

How to opt in and see your limit

  1. Dial *334#.
  2. Choose Loans and Savings, then Fuliza.
  3. Opt in. Safaricom assigns a limit, which is the most Fuliza will cover at any time.

You can use Fuliza as many times as you like within that limit: to send money, pay a till or paybill, or buy airtime. The full menu is in our Fuliza USSD guide.

Why your limit is zero

Safaricom's rule is plain: customers on the network for less than 6 months have a zero limit. After 6 months, the limit is allocated based on the line's activity, so a line you rarely use can still show zero. A foreign-passport registration blocks Fuliza altogether. Our guide on why an M-PESA loan limit is zero covers M-Shwari and KCB M-PESA as well.

How to increase your Fuliza limit

Safaricom names two things, and only two:

  1. Keep using Safaricom and M-PESA. The limit is based on your line's activity.
  2. Repay on time. Fuliza is cleared when money comes into your M-PESA, so topping up promptly repays it.

There is no form, code or call that raises it. Safaricom does not publish a formula, a starting limit or a maximum, so any site that claims to know the exact score is guessing.

Why your limit went down

Safaricom says the limit is refreshed upwards or downwards depending on usage and timely repayment. A month of late repayments or a quiet line can bring it down. It can come back up the same way it grew.

The other Fuliza limits

Before you raise your limit

A bigger limit means a bigger daily fee when you use it. Fuliza charges a 1% access fee on each amount it covers, then a daily fee on what is still outstanding, plus 20% excise duty on that fee. The daily bands are in what Fuliza really costs. If you would rather not have an overdraft at all, see how to opt out of Fuliza.
