Fuliza ya Pochi, which Safaricom calls Pochi Fuliza, is an overdraft on your Pochi la Biashara wallet. If a payment from the Pochi wallet is short, it covers the gap up to your limit. You pay 1% on each amount it covers, get 48 hours before any daily fee, and it is repaid automatically from money your customers pay into Pochi. It is separate from the personal Fuliza on your M-PESA line.
Who qualifies
- You must have opted into Pochi la Biashara.
- You must have been active on Pochi for over six months.
- You use it from your Pochi wallet number.
New to Pochi? Start with our Pochi la Biashara guide. Pochi itself is opened on *334#, then Pochi La Biashara, then Opt In, or in the My OneApp mini app.
How to activate Pochi Fuliza
- Dial *334# from your Pochi wallet number.
- Choose 8, Pochi la Biashara.
- Choose 4, Pochi Fuliza.

- Accept the terms and conditions and enter your PIN.
Safaricom sends a message confirming you have opted in and telling you the limit assigned to you. Enter your PIN only at the M-PESA prompt, and never give it to anyone who calls or messages you about Pochi Fuliza.
What you can pay with it
When the Pochi wallet is short, Pochi Fuliza can cover:
- Paying a Buy Goods till
- Sending money to a mobile number
- Paying a bill (paybill)
Each time, a prompt shows how much you are about to overdraw, and you accept or reject it. You can keep using it until you hit your limit.
What it costs
Safaricom charges a 1% fee on every disbursement, so KSh 10 on a KSh 1,000 overdraft. You then get 48 hours free of the daily maintenance fee. After that, a daily fee is charged on what you still owe:
| Amount outstanding (KSh) | Daily charge (KSh) |
|---|---|
| 0 to 100 | 0 |
| 101 to 500 | 3 |
| 501 to 1,000 | 6 |
| 1,001 to 1,500 | 21.6 |
| 1,501 to 2,500 | 24 |
| 2,501 to 70,000 | 30 |
These are Safaricom's "Total Charges" figures for Pochi Fuliza. They are the same six totals as the personal Fuliza tariff. The difference is the start: personal Fuliza begins its daily fee the next day at midnight, while Pochi Fuliza gives 48 hours first.
Example. You overdraw KSh 1,000 and clear it on day five. You pay the 1% fee of KSh 10, nothing for the first 48 hours, then KSh 6 for each day after that. If three days fall after the free period, that is KSh 18, so about KSh 28 in total. Clearing it inside 48 hours costs only the KSh 10.
Your limit
Safaricom assigns the limit when you opt in and tells you in the confirmation message. You can draw from KSh 1 up to that limit. Safaricom does not publish a standard starting limit or a maximum.
Safaricom's advice for growing it is to get your customers paying you through your Pochi wallet: the more you transact, the more the limit grows. Nobody can raise it for you for a fee, so treat anyone who offers as a scammer.
How it is repaid
- Repayment comes off automatically from money paid into your Pochi wallet.
- If the wallet is empty, the system keeps trying until money comes in.
- It is payable within 30 days.
- You can pay early, as soon as money is in your Pochi wallet.
To check what you owe, your mini statement or your due date, dial *334#, choose 8 (Pochi la Biashara), then 4 (Pochi Fuliza), then Query balance.
If you do not repay
Safaricom says a merchant who does not pay on time loses access to the overdraft, has the limit reduced, and is eventually listed on CRB 91 days after the due date. A CRB listing follows you to banks and other lenders; see M-PESA loans and CRB listing.
How to opt out
You can opt out once you have cleared what you owe: dial *334#, choose 8 (Pochi la Biashara), then 4 (Pochi Fuliza), then Opt out.
