Loans & asset finance
Loans in Kenya: mobile loans, loan apps, phones, bikes and solar
There are two ways most Kenyans borrow. Mobile cash loans send money to your M-PESA and you repay with a fee, usually within 30 days. Asset finance gives you a phone, motorbike, car or solar kit for a deposit, and you repay it in instalments by M-PESA. This hub covers both, plus student, SACCO and government loans, with the verified paybill for each lender and the honest total cost.

Frequently asked
- What is asset finance?
- A lender gives you the asset (a phone, motorbike, car or solar kit) for a deposit, and you repay the balance in instalments via M-PESA. The asset stays legally theirs until you make the final payment.
- Is financing cheaper than paying cash?
- No. It typically costs 25 to 60% more once every instalment and fee is counted. It buys you access now, not a lower price.
- What happens if I miss payments?
- A financed phone or solar unit locks remotely until you catch up. A motorbike or car with a tracker can be disabled and, after sustained default, repossessed. Most lenders also report you to the CRB.
- Which paybill for which lender?
- M-KOPA 333222, Watu Credit 650880, Mogo 7034211, Sun King 323458, d.light 215550. Always confirm the number on your own contract or in the lender app before paying.
- Can I borrow if I am listed on the CRB?
- Most commercial apps will decline you. Neither Safaricom's Fuliza page nor the Hustler Fund's own site says how they treat CRB listings, so do not count on either while you clear the listing. See how to get off the CRB first.
