KCB M-PESA is the KCB savings and loan account inside M-PESA. KCB's own KCB M-PESA FAQ lists two ways to pay the loan. Both are below, with the exact menu names KCB uses.
1. Pay from the M-PESA menu
- Open the M-PESA menu (the M-PESA app, the SIM toolkit, or *334#).
- Choose Loans and Savings.
- Choose KCB M-PESA.
- Choose Pay loan.
- Choose to pay from M-PESA or from your KCB M-PESA account.
- Enter the amount and follow the prompts to finish.
This route pays the loan on the line you are using. Paying from your KCB M-PESA account uses money you have saved there.
2. Pay with paybill 522559
- Open the M-PESA menu and choose Lipa na M-PESA.
- Choose Pay Bill.
- Enter 522559 as the business number.
- Enter the borrower's national ID number as the account number, for example 12345678.
- Enter the amount and your M-PESA PIN, then confirm.
Because the account is the borrower's ID number, this is the route to use when you are paying a KCB M-PESA loan for someone else, or from a different line.
Two mistakes that leave the loan unpaid
- Using 522522. That is the KCB Bank paybill for deposits into a KCB bank account. KCB M-PESA loans use 522559. See sending M-PESA to KCB for which number does what.
- Entering a phone number as the account on 522559. KCB's FAQ asks for the borrower's ID number. If you already paid with a phone number and the loan has not cleared, call KCB with the M-PESA transaction code so they can match the payment.
Cost and limit
