Fuliza Biashara is an overdraft for M-PESA business tills up to KES 400,000, charged 2 percent per disbursement plus a daily band fee, repayable in 30 days. Miss the 91-day mark and your business goes on CRB. It is designed for M-PESA merchants (Buy Goods tills) whose float can dip below the amount needed to complete an incoming or outgoing transaction.

What Fuliza Biashara actually is

A Safaricom-branded overdraft facility issued by KCB Bank Kenya and NCBA Bank Kenya against M-PESA business tills. When your till is asked to complete a transaction it does not have the balance for, Fuliza Biashara covers the shortfall automatically up to your assigned limit, and expects repayment within 30 days.

Typical use cases: a customer's Buy Goods payment lands after M-PESA charges are deducted, leaving you short of the exact amount you were expecting to pay a supplier; a supplier payment out of the till exceeds your current till balance; a temporary float gap between cash-in and cash-out cycles.

For a KES 10,000 Fuliza Biashara drawdown cleared in 5 days: disbursement fee KES 200, daily fee at the highest published band roughly KES 25 x 5 = KES 125, excise on daily fee KES 25. Approximate total: KES 350. Actual band fee is displayed on the till USSD at drawdown; read that number.

Eligibility

  • Registered M-PESA Buy Goods till, active for at least 6 months.
  • Stable transaction pattern (Safaricom uses the till's history to score the limit).
  • Till owner in good standing with NCBA and KCB (no material default).
  • Registered contact phone in good standing on Safaricom (opt-in must be from that line).

How to activate and use

  1. Dial *234# from the phone number registered as the till's primary contact.
  2. Select Fuliza Biashara from the menu (only visible on registered till lines).
  3. Accept the terms on first use. The system displays your assigned limit.
  4. Trade normally. The overdraft engages automatically when the till cannot complete a transaction on its own balance.
  5. Repay by loading float into the till (cash-in through an M-PESA agent, or receiving customer payments). Repayment happens automatically as credits land in the till.

The 91-day CRB rule

Fuliza Biashara sits under bank supervision (NCBA and KCB) and follows the standard bank default reporting timeline. Non-repayment past 90 consecutive days becomes reportable to the Credit Reference Bureau. This is a business default and it attaches to both the till and the owner's personal profile in CRB. See M-PESA loans and CRB listing for the day-by-day timeline and clearance process.

Note that the Kenya Revenue Authority separately expects business income to be declared for tax. Persistent Fuliza Biashara use is not a substitute for reconciling the till's books at month-end.

FAQ

What is Fuliza Biashara?

An overdraft on M-PESA business tills. Instead of a till transaction failing when the till float dips too low or a customer pays a Lipa Na M-PESA that clears net-of-charges below what the till expected, Fuliza Biashara can cover the shortfall up to your assigned limit.

How much does Fuliza Biashara cost?

A one-off 2 percent per disbursement plus a daily band fee. Excise applies to fees on financial services. Precise band table is displayed at drawdown on the till line USSD.

What happens if I do not repay Fuliza Biashara?

Repayment is expected within 30 days. Miss 91 consecutive days and the underlying bank (NCBA or KCB) lists the business on the Credit Reference Bureau. That affects any future bank borrowing for the business owner.

How do I access Fuliza Biashara?

Dial *234# from the phone number registered as the till's primary contact. First use requires opt-in and terms acceptance.
