Zash is a licensed lender, and an expensive one. Its own Google Play listing gives a representative APR of 274% to 1,500% a year. That range is the price of fast, unsecured money with no paperwork. If you can wait a day or two, cheaper options exist.
What a Zash loan costs
Zash publishes one worked example on its Play listing:
- Loan: KSh 15,000 over 61 days
- Interest rate for the example: 45%
- Interest: KSh 6,750
- Total to repay: KSh 21,750, in two instalments of KSh 10,875
Zash says no processing fee is charged unless it is shown to you before you accept. Your own rate depends on the product and your history, and the app shows the amount, interest, any fees, the total and the due dates before you accept. Read that screen. You are not obliged to take the offer.
Limits, terms and who qualifies
- Amount: KSh 500 to KSh 100,000, subject to assessment (Play listing and zashloan.com). The FAQ on zashloan.com says first loans start at KSh 500 and can grow to KSh 50,000 as you repay on time.
- Term: up to 91 days, depending on the loan product.
- Who can apply: Kenyan residents aged 18 to 60 with a source of income (zashloan.com says 18 to 60; the Play listing says at least 18).
- Payout: to M-PESA once approved.
- Repayment: through M-PESA, using the paybill and account shown in the app, or M-PESA Express from inside the app. Check the business name on the M-PESA screen before you enter your PIN.
- Paying late: the FAQ on zashloan.com says late repayments attract late interest of 2.5% a day. On a loan that is already expensive, a few days late adds up fast.
How widely used it is
Google Play showed Zash Loan with 10M+ downloads and a 4.4-star rating from about 245,000 reviews on 25 October 2026. The listing was last updated on 29 September 2026.
CRB and your data
Zash says it may share your information with licensed credit reference bureaus where the law permits or requires it. If you fall behind, the CBK rules require a warning before any negative listing, and a default of KSh 1,000 or less cannot be listed at all. More in what happens after a missed loan payment.
Our view
Zash is legitimate: the licence is real and current on CBK's directory. Use it only for a short gap you can close quickly, borrow the smallest amount that solves the problem, and repay early. For anything over a few weeks, a bank, SACCO or check-off loan will usually cost much less.
