Mwananchi Credit, Momentum Credit and Ngao Credit are three of the most visible non-bank logbook lenders in Kenya. All three are licensed as Digital Credit Providers (DCPs) by the Central Bank of Kenya. The differences are branch footprint, published loan-size ceilings, and product breadth beyond the flagship logbook loan.

Where each actually wins
- Mwananchi Credit wins on regional reach and product breadth (title deed loans, LPO financing, IPF). If you are outside a major town, Mwananchi is the most likely to have a branch you can walk into.
- Momentum Credit wins on motor import financing, invoice discounting, and its Shariah-compliant asset finance option. Best fit for an SME with a vehicle-adjacent working capital need.
- Ngao Credit wins on published transparency: KES 100,000 to KES 5,000,000, up to 60 percent of vehicle value, 6-hour turnaround, all published on the marketing page. Cleanest logbook-first proposition.
How to choose in practice
- Get a written valuation report from a licensed motor vehicle valuer.
- Send the valuation to all three lenders. Ask for a written offer with total cost of credit disclosure.
- Compare the total repayable and the effective APR on the same principal and term.
- Pick the cheapest that also has a branch you can reach on repayment days.
