Are Fiza, PesaIn and Wamaka loan apps licensed by CBK?

Fiza and PesaIn come from Wabema Credit Limited, a licensed digital lender. Wamaka is not in CBK's directory. What we checked and what it means.

What we found, app by app

  • Fiza: the Google Play listing names the developer as Wabema Credit Limited. CBK's directory lists Wabema Credit Ltd, first licensed on 5 June 2025, with its office on Mombasa Road, Nairobi. See its entry in our CBK licensed lenders list.
  • PesaIn: same developer on Google Play, Wabema Credit Limited, so the same licence covers it. PesaIn's listing did not show its loan terms when we checked, so we do not quote any.
  • Wamaka: not in CBK's directory as a company or trading name, and a search for it on Google Play Kenya returned no app of that name. If someone sends you a Wamaka link or an APK file to install, treat it as unverified and do not hand over your ID or contacts.

Fiza's published terms

Fiza's own Google Play listing gives these terms:

  • Loans of KES 800 to KES 100,000.
  • Repayment over 91 to 120 days, with the final term set at approval.
  • An annual percentage rate (APR) of 16% to 65.5%.
  • Its worked example: KES 10,000 for 91 days at 28% APR costs KES 700 in interest, so you repay KES 10,700.
  • Borrowers must be 18 to 60, with a national ID and an active M-PESA account.

The offer screen is what counts, not the listing. Before you tap accept, read the amount you will receive, the total you will repay and the due date. If the due date is days away rather than months, or the total is far above the listing's example, do not accept.

Licensed does not mean cheap

A CBK licence means the lender is supervised: it must keep a complaints channel and may not shame you online or call your contacts to collect a debt. It does not cap the price. At the top of Fiza's range, 65.5% a year, a loan costs about 5.5% a month. Compare it with the licensed loan apps we have ranked and what each one really costs before you borrow.

Seeing “Zambia loan app” in your search?

Some apps that show up for Kenyan searches are built for other countries. Zeed's website, for example, prices its loans in Zambian kwacha. An app built for another market is not licensed to lend in Kenya. See are Zeed, Lendable and Zam licensed.

How to check any loan app in two minutes

  1. On the Google Play listing, note the developer name under the app name.
  2. Search that name in our CBK licence checker or the full list of licensed digital lenders.
  3. If the developer name is a person, a foreign company or a name that is not listed, do not borrow, and do not give the app access to your contacts.
