How to pay, step by step
- Open M-PESA. Dial
*334#or open the M-PESA app. - Choose Lipa na M-PESA, then Pay Bill.
- Enter business number 247247. This is Equity Bank’s paybill.
- Enter account number 254829. This is DCP’s fixed account under Equity Bank. Do not enter your own number.
- Enter the amount in KES that matches your position and eligibility (see fee table above).
- Enter your M-PESA PIN and confirm.
The M-PESA confirmation SMS will show a transaction code (for example TAA1B2C3D4). Save this code. You need it as part of the aspirant submission.
The aspirant submission process
Paying the fee is not the same as being nominated. After payment, DCP requires you to submit, via the party’s designated channel:
- The M-PESA transaction confirmation (the SMS or a screenshot).
- Your full legal name as it appears on your national ID.
- Your national ID number.
- Your phone number.
- The county you intend to contest in.
- The constituency.
- The ward (for MCA applicants).
- The specific position you are contesting.
Submission channels are set by the party. Use the contact details on dcp.co.ke, or the channel published in the DCP notice you received. If a WhatsApp group or local aspirant coordinator is collecting these submissions on the party’s behalf, verify with the party HQ that they are actually authorised to receive them.
An honest note on nomination fees
Nomination fees serve two purposes for parties. The first is administrative: it costs money to vet aspirants, hold internal contests, and issue nomination certificates. The second is filtering: a fee raises the cost of speculative applications and thins the field. Both are defensible.
The uncomfortable side is that a KES 50,000 governor fee (KES 25,000 for youth or PWD) is not trivial for genuinely grassroots candidates who might otherwise be viable. It is small enough that a well-organised community can crowdfund it; it is large enough that a serious aspirant without capital or a sponsor may be shut out. That is not a criticism specific to DCP; every major Kenyan party runs a similar structure, and the fees are broadly comparable across parties. It is worth naming plainly rather than pretending the fee schedule is neutral.
How DCP compares to other parties
We compare DCP against other 2027 nomination fee schedules where they are publicly available in the nomination fees across Kenyan parties 2027 research guide. Short version: DCP has published a full schedule; UDA handles nominations through aspirants.uda.ke without a public fee page on the party homepage as of August 2026; ODM, Jubilee and others typically publish fee schedules closer to nomination windows and often vary fees for competitive positions.
What if you paid the wrong amount or wrong account?
- Wrong amount (too low): pay the balance separately using the same paybill 247247 / account 254829, and submit both transaction codes together.
- Wrong amount (too high): contact DCP directly with both the M-PESA transaction code and your submission details. Refunds of overpayments are typically at party discretion.
- Wrong account number: this is the serious failure mode. If you paid paybill 247247 with an account number other than 254829, the money went to a different Equity Bank customer, not to DCP. Reverse via
*456#(or forward the SMS to456) within 7 days if possible, and pay again correctly.
FAQ
What is the DCP nomination fee for MCA in 2027?
KES 5,000 for standard applicants, KES 2,500 for youth and PWD applicants. Paid via M-PESA paybill 247247, account 254829.
What is the DCP nomination fee for MP, Woman Rep, or Senator?
KES 10,000 for standard applicants, KES 5,000 for youth and PWD applicants. Same paybill 247247, same account 254829.
What is the DCP nomination fee for Governor?
KES 50,000 for standard applicants, KES 25,000 for youth and PWD applicants. Same paybill 247247, account 254829.
What does the DCP paybill 247247 actually correspond to?
Paybill 247247 is Equity Bank's aggregator paybill. Many different Equity customers route through it. The account number 254829 is DCP's fixed account under Equity Bank, so payments to 247247 with account 254829 land in the DCP account specifically. Get 254829 exactly right; a wrong account number sends the money to a different Equity customer, not to DCP.
What documents does DCP need after I pay?
The party requires the M-PESA transaction confirmation (the SMS with the code that starts with two letters, for example TAA1B2C3D4), plus your full name, national ID number, phone number, county, constituency, ward, and the position you intend to contest. Submission channels are set by the party; use the contact details on dcp.co.ke.
Who qualifies for the youth or PWD reduced fee?
Youth is generally defined as 18 to 35 years old under Kenyan usage. PWD means Persons with Disability, typically evidenced by a National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) registration or equivalent. Confirm the exact evidence DCP requires when you submit your application.
Is the DCP nomination fee refundable if I withdraw?
Nomination fees at Kenyan parties are typically non-refundable, since they cover the cost of vetting and administration. Do not assume you can recover the fee if you change your mind about contesting. If you need to be certain, ask DCP in writing before you pay.
Where was this fee schedule announced?
DCP issued a notice dated 24 July 2026. People Daily reported the full fee schedule the next day (25 July 2026). We source both here. If DCP publishes an updated schedule, we will refresh this guide.
Do I need to be a DCP member before applying?
Party membership requirements for aspirants are set by the party. Practically, most Kenyan parties expect nominees to be registered members before nomination. Confirm the current membership status expected on the DCP submission form or via the party.
