Airtel Money runs on three headline limits set with the Central Bank of Kenya. You can move up to KES 500,000 in total value in a day, hold up to KES 500,000 in your account at any time, and send up to KES 250,000 in a single transaction. These are the ceilings: everyday use sits well under them.
Your Airtel Money limits (verified)
| Limit | Amount (KES) |
|---|---|
| Maximum daily transaction value | 500,000 |
| Maximum account balance | 500,000 |
| Maximum per single transaction | 250,000 |
What they mean in practice
If you need to move more than KES 250,000, split it across transactions within the daily KES 500,000 ceiling. If your balance is near KES 500,000, you cannot receive more until you spend or withdraw some. For very large or business volumes, an Airtel Money business account and bank transfers are the better route.
Good to know
To transact at an agent you must show your original ID. Airtel sets these limits in line with CBK regulation: they can change, and this page is dated and re-checked. Sending Airtel-to-Airtel is free, so splitting a large transfer between two Airtel wallets costs nothing in fees.
Frequently asked
Can I raise my limit?
The headline limits are regulatory ceilings, not per-user settings. A business Airtel Money account has separate rules for high-volume needs.
What if I hit the daily limit?
Wait for the next day, or use a bank transfer for the excess.
Are these the same as M-PESA?
Yes: CBK sets one wallet ceiling that applies across all mobile-money PSPs since the 2023 uplift.
