AI Training Jobs in Kenya: Which Platforms Accept Kenyans

By Josephine Njeri · Online jobs hub

We checked seven AI training platforms against their own published rules on 16 October 2026. Mercor excludes Kenya in writing, Outlier does not list it, and Handshake AI takes open applications only from the US. Remotasks stopped operating in Kenya in 2024. micro1 publishes a list of countries it cannot hire from, and Kenya is not on it. DataAnnotation and CrowdGen publish no country list. Mercor, DataAnnotation and CrowdGen say in writing that they never charge you; we found no platform that does.

What AI training work actually is

AI companies pay people to write, check and rate the answers their models give, so the models get better. Depending on the platform that means rating chatbot replies, writing prompts and model answers, checking facts, or reviewing code. The better-paid projects want subject experts: nurses, lawyers, accountants, engineers, teachers, programmers. Most platforms screen you with a test, an interview run by an AI recruiter, or both, and then verify your identity.

Why the country rules matter more than the pay

Most of these platforms verify identity, for example with a government ID, a selfie or a phone number from your country of residence. If you sign up from a country the platform does not serve, or on a VPN, or on an account bought from someone abroad, you can do weeks of work and lose the account and its balance at the first check. So the first question is not what a platform pays. It is whether it says, in its own rules, that it can take someone living in Kenya.

How we checked

On 16 October 2026 we read each platform's own country, eligibility and payment pages, and its own scam warnings. Where a platform says nothing about Kenya, we say that, rather than guess. We have not yet signed up and been paid by any of them, so these pages do not tell you how money reaches M-PESA. When our team has tested a payout, we will add it and date it.

Country lists change. Read the platform's own page again before you start, and if a page here is out of date, tell us.

Rules that hold on every platform

  1. None of the platforms we checked asks you to pay to apply, train or be verified. Mercor, DataAnnotation and CrowdGen say so in writing.
  2. Apply only through the platform's own website. DataAnnotation says its verified sign-up flow is the only way to apply.
  3. Check the sender. micro1 says its emails come only from @micro1.ai, @micro1.io or @micro1.co; Mercor only from @mercor.com.
  4. Never buy an account, and never use a VPN to get round a country rule.
  5. Recruiters on WhatsApp or Telegram who promise one of these jobs for a fee are running a scam. See how to avoid online job scams.

Frequently asked

Which AI training platforms accept Kenyans in 2026?

Of the seven we checked on 16 October 2026, micro1 is the only one that publishes a list of countries it cannot hire from with Kenya absent. DataAnnotation and CrowdGen publish no country list. Mercor lists Kenya as unsupported, Outlier does not list it, Handshake AI takes open applications only from the US, and Remotasks left Kenya in 2024.

Is Outlier available in Kenya?

No. Outlier's working guidelines, effective 15 July 2026, list the countries you may work from, and Kenya is not among them.

Is Mercor available in Kenya?

No. Mercor's supported-countries policy lists Kenya as unsupported and says it cannot onboard experts or issue contracts there.

Do I have to pay to join?

No. Mercor, DataAnnotation and CrowdGen say in writing that they never charge you, and we found no platform that does. Anyone asking you for money to get you in is a scammer.

How do these platforms pay Kenyans?

We have not yet tested a payout to a Kenyan account on any of them, so we do not say. Each platform page lists what the platform itself says about payment.
