How to Avoid Online Job Scams in Kenya
By Josephine Njeri · Online jobs hub
The online-jobs space in Kenya is full of scams, and they follow a few patterns. Learn the red flags once, and you will spot almost all of them. The core rule is simple: a real job pays you, you never pay it.
The red flags
A registration or activation fee to start, promises of fixed high daily earnings for no skill, pay that comes mainly from recruiting others, a request for your M-PESA PIN or an OTP, pressure to deposit to unlock a withdrawal, no verifiable payout history, and vague companies with no real contact. Any one of these is a reason to stop.
Stay safe
Never pay to start, never share your PIN or an OTP, confirm a platform's payout history from real users, and if it sounds like free money, it is a way to take yours. Report scams and warn others.
