Handshake AI Fellowship: Can Kenyans Join?

Kenyans cannot apply to the Handshake AI Fellowship in the normal way. Handshake says open applications require you to be based in the US with work authorisation it can support. For people outside the US, its help centre says participation is currently invite-only. An “invite” on WhatsApp is not one.

What it is

Handshake, best known as a US student careers platform, runs an AI Fellowship in which students and experts help train and evaluate AI models.

The eligibility rule

Handshake's fellowship page says you must be based in the US and have a valid work authorisation that Handshake can support. Its help centre says that for international fellows, participation is currently invite-only. Handshake also runs phone and identity checks and a background check.

Scams that use Handshake's name

Handshake says it and its partners will never ask for sensitive information by text, in-app message, email, phone, social media or WhatsApp, and warns about fake domains and Gmail addresses. A WhatsApp offer of a Handshake AI role for someone in Kenya is a scam.
