Every M-PESA Go parent control lives at*334# → My Account → Manage Junior Account. Four sub-menus: Manage services, Manage Junior Relationships, View Junior Account Info, Daily transaction limits. The same tree is mirrored in the parent M-PESA app under Financial Services → M-PESA GO.

→ Delete1. Manage services
Each of the three teen-accessible services can be flipped on or off independently:
- Send Money. Turn off if you want the teen to receive-only for a while (younger children, or after a lost-PIN scare).
- Lipa na M-PESA. Covers both Paybill and Buy Goods. Useful to disable temporarily if you notice unfamiliar merchant charges.
- Buy Airtime. The teen can still receive airtime as a gift; only the outbound purchase from their wallet is blocked.
Betting, cash withdrawal, cash deposit and loans are permanently blocked at the product level: you will not find them in this menu at all.
2. Manage Junior Relationships
- Add Junior Customer. Link an M-PESA Go account that was set up at a shop, or shift a child from another parent’s profile after a family change.
- Remove Junior Customer. Unlinks without closing the account itself. Use if the teen is now living with the other parent.
- View Junior Account List. Shows every M-PESA Go account currently on your profile (max 4).
3. View Junior Account Info
Balance shows the wallet balance for the selected child. Mini statement shows the last five transactions with dates, amounts and counterparty numbers.
For a full statement, the teen has to request one from their own line: Safaricom does not currently expose a full statement in the parent view. That is a deliberate privacy design.
4. Daily transaction limits
Three actions:
- Set. Enter a KES daily ceiling per child. Everything above it fails with a limit-exceeded response.
- Change. Adjust up or down. Common pattern: KES 500/day for a 10-year-old, KES 2,000/day for a 15-year-old, KES 5,000/day for a 17-year-old.
- Delete. Removes the parent-set limit. The account then falls back to the standard M-PESA ceiling (KES 250,000 per transaction, KES 500,000 per day), which for a minor is effectively no limit.
Every ceiling resets at 00:00 EAT. A cap of KES 1,000 does not roll over unspent balance to the next day.
Doing the same in the M-PESA app
The parent M-PESA app mirrors this tree under Financial Services → M-PESA GO. If a child account is not showing, tap the top-right refresh, or add it manually via Manage Junior Relationships. Some parents find the app faster for setting limits and USSD faster for on-the-spot enabling and disabling services.
A practical setup
Reasonable defaults on a first-time M-PESA Go account:
- Set a daily limit: start low (KES 500 to 1,000) and lift it as the teen shows they handle it.
- Leave Send Money enabled, but keep the limit low.
- Leave Lipa na M-PESA enabled: this is where most legitimate teen spending goes.
- Leave Buy Airtime enabled: it is small change and forces the teen to budget.
- Check the mini statement once a week for the first month.
Frequently asked
How do I set a daily limit on my teen’s M-PESA Go?
Dial *334# → My Account → Manage Junior Account → Daily transaction limits → Set. Pick the teen, enter a KES amount, confirm with your parent M-PESA PIN.
Can I stop my teen from sending money without closing the account?
Yes. *334# → My Account → Manage Junior Account → Manage services → Send Money → Disable. Every other service stays live. Re-enable the same way when ready.
Can I see every transaction my teen makes?
The parent menu shows the last five transactions per child. For a full statement, the teen can request one on their own line via *334# → M-PESA → M-PESA Statement (fee: KES 25 for 3 months).
What happens if my teen tries to spend beyond the limit I set?
The transaction is declined with a limit-exceeded message. The teen’s daily budget resets at midnight EAT.
Can I remove a teen from my profile?
Yes, at any time. *334# → My Account → Manage Junior Account → Manage Junior Relationships → Remove Junior Customer.
