MCo-op Cash is one of the most-used mobile banking products in Kenya, but Co-op's own documentation is notoriously terse. This guide is the plain-language version — what MCo-op Cash does, how to register, how to move money in and out, and how the MCo-op Cash loan works.
What MCo-op Cash is
MCo-op Cash is Co-operative Bank's channel for banking without a branch. It runs two ways: the USSD code *667# on any phone (including feature phones), and the MCo-op Cash smartphone app. Both give you the same core services — balance, mini-statement, transfers, bill payment, airtime, and the MCo-op Cash loan.
How to register
- Dial
*667#from the phone number linked to your Co-op Bank account. - Choose Register (or Activate).
- Follow the prompts to create an MCo-op Cash PIN.
- If your number isn't linked to your Co-op account, visit a Co-op branch or agent to link it first — registration won't complete otherwise.
Moving money into Co-op (paybill 400200)
To top up a Co-op Bank account from M-PESA:
- M-PESA → Lipa na M-PESA → Pay Bill.
- Business number 400200.
- Account number = your 13-digit Co-op Bank account number.
- Enter amount, confirm with your M-PESA PIN.
The credit reflects in the Co-op account within minutes. See the Co-op Bank paybill page for the live reference.
Sending money out
From the *667# menu, Send Money covers transfers to other Co-op accounts, to other banks (via PesaLink or RTGS), and to M-PESA. The M-PESA option asks for the recipient Safaricom number and amount; it settles within minutes. Standard bank-to-M-PESA fees apply — compare them in our bank-to-M-PESA fees guide.
The MCo-op Cash loan
MCo-op Cash offers a short-term mobile loan to qualifying Co-op customers. The borrowing limit is set by your account history and credit profile, and is shown in the app before you confirm. Like every Kenyan mobile loan, it carries a facility fee plus monthly interest — check the exact figures quoted in-app, and model the all-in cost with our loan repayment calculator. MCo-op Cash vs the Co-op USSD menu
They're the same thing — *667# is the MCo-op Cash USSD channel. The smartphone app is a friendlier front-end over the identical service. Use whichever suits your phone; the account, PIN, and limits are shared. Full USSD detail is on our Co-operative Bank USSD page.
