How to Load an SBM Prepaid Card from M-PESA (2026)

Load the SBM Platinum Multicurrency prepaid card from M-PESA: the paybill, what to enter as the account, loading in the Mfukoni app, and the card fees.

Load the card on M-PESA

  1. Open M-PESA and choose Lipa na M-PESA, then Pay Bill.
  2. Enter business number 552883.
  3. Enter your card number as the account number.
  4. Enter the amount and check the name on the confirmation screen before your PIN.

SBM's card page says the card loads via M-PESA but does not print the number. 552883 comes from SBM's own X account, and we checked that it is live. If the balance does not change, call SBM on 0709 800 000 with the M-PESA code.

Load it in Mfukoni instead

In the Mfukoni app you can load the card from M-PESA or move money from your SBM account. SBM also lists prepaid card top-up in online banking, at a branch and by interbank transfer. New cards are activated in Mfukoni under Card Services.

  • SBM Platinum Multicurrency Prepaid Card, Mastercard.
  • Eight wallets: KES, USD, GBP, EUR, INR, AED, CAD and ZAR.
  • Issuance KES 300, replacement KES 300, excluding excise duty.
  • For Kenyan citizens or residents, with ID, KRA PIN or resident permit and the SBM prepaid card application form.

FAQ

What is the SBM prepaid card paybill?

SBM's card page does not print one. SBM's own X account has told customers to use paybill 552883 with the card number as the account, and we checked that the number is live before publishing. It is not 552800, which is for SBM bank accounts.

Can I load the card in the Mfukoni app?

Yes. SBM's FAQs list "Load SBM prepaid card" in Mfukoni, and the app added loading cards via M-PESA in July 2025. You can also move money from your SBM account into the card there.

Which currencies does the card hold?

Eight: KES, USD, GBP, EUR, INR, AED, CAD and ZAR. M-PESA loads arrive in shillings, and you switch wallets in Mfukoni at SBM's rate.

What does the card cost?

KES 300 to issue and KES 300 to replace, excluding excise duty. SBM's card page and its 2026 tariff guide give different ATM fees, so check the tariff before relying on a figure.
