Equity is the second-largest bank in Kenya by customer base, and M-PESA-to-Equity is one of the most common cross-platform deposit flows. The default route is paybill 247247 — Equity's Eazzy Pay paybill — which works for sending to any Equity account. There are also app-based and Equitel routes for users who want different trade-offs. This guide covers all three, with fees, timing, and the small mistakes that cause deposits to stall.

Three ways to send from M-PESA to Equity

  1. Paybill 247247 (Eazzy Pay) — works for sending to any Equity account holder. The standard route.
  2. Equity Mobile / Equity app pull — for moving M-PESA to your own Equity account.
  3. Equitel — Equity's own MVNO that integrates banking and mobile money on one SIM. Works for Equitel users.

Method 1 — M-PESA paybill 247247

  1. Open M-PESA.
  2. Select Lipa na M-PESA → Pay Bill.
  3. Business number: 247247.
  4. Account number: the Equity account number (typically 13 digits, starts with 0, 1, or 4).
  5. Amount.
  6. M-PESA PIN, confirm.

Two SMS confirm: M-PESA transaction code, and Equity deposit notification. Funds reflect in 1-15 minutes typically. Larger amounts (KES 100,000+) can take up to 30 minutes during peak hours.

Fees for paybill 247247

Standard 2026 M-PESA paybill tariff (paid by the sender):

  • KES 100 or less: free
  • KES 1,000: KES 10
  • KES 5,000: KES 34
  • KES 10,000: KES 48
  • KES 50,000: KES 67
  • KES 100,000+: KES 105

Method 2 — Equity app pull from M-PESA

From the Equity Mobile app, you can pull funds from M-PESA into your own Equity account. This route works only for your own account, not for sending to someone else.

  1. Open the Equity Mobile app and log in.
  2. Select "Top Up" or "Get Money from M-PESA".
  3. Enter the amount.
  4. You'll receive an STK push on your registered Safaricom line — confirm with M-PESA PIN.
  5. Funds move from M-PESA to your Equity account.

Equity charges a small service fee on these pulls (typically KES 30-50, varies by amount). Compare with the paybill fee — for amounts under KES 5,000, paybill 247247 is usually cheaper.

Method 3 — Equitel

Equitel is Equity's mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) — a Safaricom-network SIM that comes with native Equity Bank integration. If you have an Equitel SIM:

  1. From your Equitel line, dial *247# or open the EazzyApp.
  2. Select "M-PESA → My Account".
  3. Enter the M-PESA-registered phone (your Safaricom line).
  4. Enter amount, confirm.

Equitel-based pulls have the lowest fees of the three methods. The trade-off is needing an Equitel SIM. Most Kenyans use the paybill route as the practical default.

Where to find the Equity account number

The recipient can find their Equity account from:

  • Equity Mobile app under "My Accounts"
  • The Equity ATM card (printed under the chip)
  • An Equity bank statement
  • By calling Equity Customer Service: 0763 000 000

Equity account numbers in Kenya are typically 13 digits, often starting with 0, 1, or 4. Don't confuse with the Equity branch code or SWIFT code — those are different.

Common mistakes

  1. Wrong paybill (e.g., 247346, 217247). Equity Eazzy Pay is exactly 247247. Triple-check before sending.
  2. Wrong account number. Equity reverses some mismatched name/account deposits but not all. Confirm the digits with the recipient.
  3. Confusing 247247 with similar-looking paybills. Africa Nazarene University also uses 247247 with student-number-as-account routing — different product but same paybill, so account-number accuracy matters.
  4. Sending more than KES 250,000. M-PESA per-transaction cap. Split or use bank-to-bank wire.
  5. Sending to a closed Equity account. Equity will bounce the deposit back to your M-PESA within 24-72 hours. Confirm the account is active before sending large amounts.

Sending money from Equity to M-PESA (the reverse)

The reverse is also straightforward:

  • From Equity Mobile app: "Send Money → To Mobile" → enter Safaricom phone
  • From Equity USSD *247#: Send Money → M-PESA
  • Settles within minutes
  • Equity charges a fee per the Equity-side tariff (typically KES 30-110 depending on amount)

Equity Eazzy Loan repayment

If you have an Equity Eazzy Loan, repayment uses a separate paybill: 247263 with your phone number as the account. Don't use 247247 for loan repayments — funds won't auto-allocate to the loan and may sit in your savings account instead.

Troubleshooting a stuck deposit

If the recipient doesn't see the deposit after 15 minutes:

  1. Confirm M-PESA SMS shows 247247 as the paybill
  2. Verify the recipient account number matches what's in the SMS
  3. Recipient checks Equity Mobile app for current balance
  4. Recipient enables SMS alerts if not already on (sometimes the deposit is there but no notification)
  5. Call Equity on 0763 000 000 with the M-PESA transaction code if still missing after 1 hour
  6. Last resort: M-PESA reversal via *234# → Reverse (24-72 hour process)

Equity multi-currency accounts

Equity offers multi-currency accounts (USD, EUR, GBP). When sending from M-PESA via paybill 247247:

  • Default routing is to the customer's primary KES account
  • To deposit into a foreign-currency account, the customer needs to do a manual move from KES to USD/EUR/GBP via the Equity app after the deposit lands in KES
  • Direct M-PESA-to-foreign-currency deposit is not supported through the paybill flow
