Your P9: getting it from T-Pay and filing with it

A P9 is the annual tax certificate your employer issues, showing twelve months of pay, the reliefs applied and the PAYE already deducted. It is what you file your KRA return from. TSC publishes P9 downloads on the T-Pay site itself, with separate links for current and former employees, so leaving the service does not cut you off from the form you still need.
What the form actually shows
Getting yours
If you cannot get the form
Filing season is not the moment to discover your P9 will not download. If you are stuck, you can reconstruct the annual picture from twelve payslips using the P9 form generator, which takes monthly gross and reliefs and produces a full PAYE, SHIF, NSSF and Housing Levy breakdown you can print. That is a working document for checking your own figures, not a substitute for the employer certificate if KRA asks for the real one.
Then filing
With the P9 in hand the return itself is the straightforward part. Filing on iTax covers the process, and the KRA hub has the rest, including what to do about penalties if you are filing late.
Frequently asked
What is a P9 form?
Your annual tax certificate, showing twelve months of pay, reliefs and PAYE deducted. You file your KRA return from it.
Where do TSC teachers get a P9?
From the T-Pay site, which publishes separate downloads for current and former employees.
I have left TSC. Can I still get my P9?
Yes. T-Pay carries a former-employees P9 download alongside the current-employees one.
Can I file without a P9?
You need the figures it contains. If the download fails you can rebuild the annual picture from your payslips with the P9 generator, but get the real certificate if KRA asks.
