KCB M-PESA
Also known as: KCB M-Pesa, KCB Mpesa loan, KCB Mpesa savings
Full definition
KCB M-PESA is the second bank-grade savings-and-loan product native to the M-PESA menu, operated by KCB Bank. It launched in 2015 as a competing rail to NCBA's M-Shwari and gives users longer tenors (1, 3 or 6 months) and typically higher limits.
The published KCB M-PESA loan cost is bundled: KCB quotes an all-in fee for the 1-month product and lets users step up to 3 or 6 months at successively higher one-off charges. As with M-Shwari, the effective annualised rate is materially higher than the headline number, and paybillke's review page carries the current worked example.
Deposit and withdrawal between M-PESA and the KCB M-PESA account are free. Loan eligibility and limit are algorithmic, driven by M-PESA transaction history and KCB banking history. Non-payment lands the user on CRB after the collection window.
Worked example
In the M-PESA menu open Loans and Savings, choose KCB M-PESA, choose Loan, choose 1-month tenor, request KES 5,000. KCB disburses to M-PESA. Repay principal plus the quoted one-off charge within the tenor window.
