Ziidi
Also known as: Ziidi M-PESA, Ziidi Money Market Fund
Full definition
Ziidi (Swahili for grow more) is a money market fund product distributed inside the M-PESA Super App and the SIM Toolkit menu. It is not a Safaricom bank account and it is not a Safaricom product in the balance-sheet sense; it is a CMA-licensed money market fund with three fund managers (Standard Investment Bank, ALA Capital, Sanlam Investments) that Safaricom offers as a distribution partner.
Minimum entry is KES 100. The user picks Ziidi in the M-PESA menu, transfers from M-PESA into the fund, and sees the balance plus the accrued yield in the app. Withdrawal back to M-PESA is same-day and free. The yield tracks the Kenyan short-term interest rate environment; the actual annualised yield varies by fund and week and is displayed in the app.
Ziidi is the third generation of M-PESA-native savings, sitting after M-Shwari (bank deposit + short-term loan) and Mali (an earlier retail money market fund since discontinued). Safaricom PLC's FY26 Annual Report cites Ziidi as a key contributor to the growth of M-PESA financial services revenue, though it does not publish a Ziidi-only AUM figure.
Worked example
In the M-PESA app tap Grow, choose Ziidi, pick one of the three fund managers, transfer KES 500. The dashboard shows the balance plus the accrued interest, updated daily.
