Gambling is for adults aged 18+ only.

Only play with money you can afford to lose. paybillke does not confirm licences: GRA publishes no register. Check what the operator prints about its licence, and confirm on gra.go.ke before depositing. If gambling is becoming a problem, support is available. Call the GRA helpline on 0800 723 770.

Start with the M-PESA SMS. The name it shows tells you who has your money, and that decides who can fix it. If it names the bookmaker, their support credits it against your M-PESA code. If it names anyone else, the paybill was wrong and the bookmaker cannot help.

Deposit not reflecting

  1. Read the recipient name in the M-PESA SMS. It should be the bookmaker. If it is a different business or a person, see how to recover a paybill payment. The 456 self-reversal does not cover paybills.
  2. Check the account field. Most Kenyan bookmakers credit the account whose registered phone number you typed; 1xBet uses its account ID. Each bookmaker's paybill page below gives the exact format. A different number can credit a different account.
  3. Allow for the tax. A 5% excise is taken from every betting deposit, so the wallet shows about 5% less than you sent. See betting tax in Kenya.
  4. Contact the bookmaker with the M-PESA code, the amount, the time and your registered number. Keep the SMS until the wallet is credited.

Withdrawal not received

  1. Check the status in your account. Pending means the bookmaker has not paid it yet. Failed usually means it went back to your betting wallet. Completed with nothing in M-PESA is the case to raise with support.
  2. Check the number on your betting account. Payouts go to the M-PESA line registered with the bookmaker. A changed or swapped line is a common cause.
  3. Check verification and limits. Many bookmakers hold a first withdrawal until your ID is verified, cap how much you can take out per transaction or per day, and do not let you withdraw bonus money until its conditions are met. The bookmaker's own page below has its rules.
  4. Expect the tax. Withholding tax is taken from payouts and from winnings, so the amount that lands is lower than the balance you saw.
  5. Escalate in writing to the bookmaker with the withdrawal reference. If they do not resolve it, the regulator is the Gambling Regulatory Authority.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my betting deposit not reflecting?

Check the M-PESA SMS. If it names the bookmaker, the money reached them and their support can credit it against your M-PESA code. If it names someone else, the paybill was wrong and you need Safaricom, not the bookmaker. If the account field was not the one the bookmaker asks for, the deposit may have landed on another account.

Why is my deposit less than what I sent?

A 5% excise duty is taken from betting deposits, so KES 100 sent lands as about KES 95. That is a tax, not a fee the bookmaker chose.

Can I reverse a deposit sent to the wrong betting paybill?

Not with 456. That self-reversal is only for person-to-person sends. For a payment to the wrong paybill, call Safaricom on 100 with the M-PESA code, and contact the business the SMS names.

Who do I complain to if a bookmaker will not pay?

Raise it with the bookmaker first and keep the reference. If that fails, the regulator is the Gambling Regulatory Authority, which licenses betting operators in Kenya.
