Tax on jackpot winnings
There is no separate tax on jackpot winnings. Under the Finance Act 2025, betting is taxed through two flat 5% excise deductions: 5% when you deposit into your betting wallet and 5% when you withdraw to M-PESA. The old 20% withholding on winnings was scrapped, and there is no tax on the stake itself.
In practice, a jackpot payout is reduced only by the 5% withdrawal excise when you cash out. On a KES 5 million Mid-week win, the 5% withdrawal excise is KES 250,000, so you'd receive KES 4,750,000 to M-PESA. Betika applies the deduction and remits to KRA on your behalf, no separate filing needed.

Withdrawal of winnings
- Winnings credit to your Betika wallet within 24 hours of the last result confirming.
- Open Betika → My Account → Withdraw.
- Enter amount → confirm to your registered Safaricom number.
- For winnings above KES 70,000, Betika may request KYC verification (national ID upload). Standard process, designed to comply with anti-money-laundering rules.
Realistic odds
Treating each prediction as a coin-flip (which is generous given draws are common in football), the math:
- Grand Jackpot 17 games: 1 in 130 million
- Mid-week 13 games: 1 in 1.6 million
- Sababisha 7 games: 1 in 2,187
These are LONGER than the actual odds because draws are roughly 25% rather than 33%, but the order of magnitude is right. The Grand Jackpot is closer to a national lottery than a skill-based bet , most weeks have no winner.
Better strategy: predictions, not random
Players who consistently take small bonuses on the Grand Jackpot tend to use prediction services (which run statistical models on team form, head-to-head, and home advantage). Even those services average ~60% accuracy per game, meaning a typical 17-game ticket gets 10/17 correct. Bonus tier 12/17 is usually the realistic ceiling, paying KES 1k-2.5k.
