OKX in Kenya

By Dennis Kiptoo · Crypto hub

OKX is one of the world's largest exchanges. In Kenya, it has limited brand pull but a functional P2P with KES / M-PESA. Consider it a tertiary exchange after Binance and Bybit, useful when you want another venue for a specific coin or arbitrage.

How to start

Sign up, KYC, use P2P. Same escrow logic as Binance and Bybit.

Where it fits

A backup exchange, a wider coin list on some pairs, and useful advanced trading tools. Not a first stop for a Kenyan buyer.

Trade-offs

P2P depth in KES is thinner than Binance's. Fees on spot are competitive.

Frequently asked

Is OKX legal in Kenya?

OKX is not licensed in Kenya under the VASP Act as of 25 October 2026. Check the CMA and CBK registers. The CBK and CMA said on 18 November 2025 that they had not licensed any provider under the Act, and we found no licence on either regulator's website when we checked. Using crypto as an individual is not banned.

Does it accept M-PESA?

Yes, via P2P.

Should I use it as my main exchange?

For most Kenyans, no.
