Binance in Kenya: The Real Guide
By James Mwangi · Crypto hub
Binance is by far the biggest crypto exchange used in Kenya, and it is the default for one specific reason: its P2P marketplace lets you buy and sell crypto directly with M-PESA in KES. You never wire dollars to Binance, you trade with another user, Binance holds the crypto in escrow, they release M-PESA to your phone, and Binance releases the coins to your account. That is why Binance dominates.

Frequently asked
Does Binance accept M-PESA?
Not directly. You use Binance P2P to trade with other users who send/receive M-PESA.
Is Binance legal in Kenya?
Binance is not licensed in Kenya under the VASP Act as of 25 October 2026. Check the CMA and CBK registers. The CBK and CMA said on 18 November 2025 that they had not licensed any provider under the Act, and we found no licence on either regulator's website when we checked. Using crypto as an individual is not banned.
What are the fees?
P2P is free for the buyer; spot fees are around 0.1%. The P2P dealer's spread is a hidden fee, so compare rates.
