How to Buy Bitcoin with M-PESA in Kenya
By Dennis Kiptoo · Crypto hub
The fastest way to buy Bitcoin (BTC) with M-PESA in Kenya is Binance P2P for the best rate, or a local on-ramp like Yellow Card or Busha for the easiest first buy. Both use M-PESA on your phone, both take under 15 minutes for a small buy.
Route 1: Binance P2P (best rate)
Sign up, KYC, open P2P. Filter KES / M-PESA / BTC. Pick an advertiser with high completion and enough volume, buy a small amount, send M-PESA to the number shown in chat with the exact reference, then hit Transferred inside Binance. Wait for the seller to release BTC to your wallet.
Route 2: local on-ramp (easiest)
Apps like Yellow Card, Busha, or Luno let you buy BTC directly with M-PESA in one flow, no dealing with another human. Slightly higher spreads, but simpler for a first buy. Not affiliated with any of these.
What to do with it after
Keep a small amount on the exchange, move anything meaningful to a personal wallet where you control the private keys, and never share your recovery phrase with anyone, ever. Then read the sell-to-M-PESA page so you know how to cash out when you want to.
