Is Crypto Legal in Kenya? The VASP Act, Explained
By Aisha Hassan · Crypto hub
Yes. Kenya passed the Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASP) Act in 2025, which regulates exchanges, custodians and payment providers dealing in crypto. Individual Kenyans can legally buy, hold, sell and receive crypto. Crypto is not legal tender, but it is a regulated asset, not a banned one.
