Bybit in Kenya: The Second Exchange

By Dennis Kiptoo · Crypto hub

Bybit is the second-most-used exchange among Kenyan crypto users, well behind Binance but ahead of the rest. It runs a P2P marketplace with KES / M-PESA support, lower fees on derivatives than most, and a growing spot market. If Binance feels crowded or you want another venue, Bybit is the real alternative.

How to start

Sign up, KYC with a Kenyan ID, open P2P, filter KES / M-PESA, pick a trusted advertiser. Same escrow logic as Binance.

Where Bybit wins

Slightly slicker mobile app, competitive derivatives fees, and less crowded P2P at certain hours. Good backup exchange if Binance is under load.

Where Binance still wins

Deeper P2P liquidity, more listed coins, and more M-PESA advertisers online at any time. For most Kenyans, Binance stays primary and Bybit is a secondary account.

Frequently asked

Is Bybit legal in Kenya?

Bybit is not licensed in Kenya under the VASP Act as of 25 October 2026. Check the CMA and CBK registers. The CBK and CMA said on 18 November 2025 that they had not licensed any provider under the Act, and we found no licence on either regulator's website when we checked. Using crypto as an individual is not banned.

Does it accept M-PESA?

Yes, through P2P.

Should I use both?

Many Kenyans do, Binance primary and Bybit as backup or for a specific trade.
