How to Buy USDT with M-PESA in Kenya

By James Mwangi · Crypto hub

USDT (Tether) is a stablecoin pegged 1:1 to the US dollar, and it is the coin most Kenyans actually use for P2P and cross-border. To buy it with M-PESA, use Binance P2P: filter KES / M-PESA / USDT, pick a trusted advertiser, buy, send M-PESA with the reference, and mark Transferred once your SMS shows the debit. Escrow releases USDT to your Binance wallet.

Why USDT rather than Bitcoin

USDT does not swing in value. If you buy 100 USDT today, it should still be worth about 100 USDT in a month. That makes it useful for cross-border remittances, dollar savings, and freelance payouts, where you do not want price risk between receiving and spending.

The buy flow

Same as the general P2P flow, but the coin is USDT. Buy small first, confirm it lands, save your advertiser, and repeat. Never send M-PESA before opening the trade, and never release before your own confirmation.

What to do with USDT

Hold as digital dollars, send it to another user's wallet anywhere in the world in minutes, or swap it later for another coin on the exchange. It is not for local shopping, it is for dollar-denominated value that moves fast.
