The people at that level sell a skill to overseas clients: developers, designers, experienced writers and virtual assistants with long-term contracts. Any advert offering Ksh 10,000 a day with no experience is the pay-to-join scam.

  2. Over an 8-hour day it is Ksh 1,250 an hour, which at today's exchange rate is close to USD 10 an hour, every hour, every working day.
  3. On micro-tasks paying, say, Ksh 20 each, it would take 500 tasks a day. That is why task apps never get anyone near this number.

Who actually earns it

People with a skill an overseas client will pay for by the hour or by the project: software development, design, video editing, specialist writing, and virtual assistants on a full-time retainer. They usually got there after months of smaller jobs and good reviews. Most start at Ksh 500 a day, then Ksh 1,000 a day, and climb as their rate and repeat clients grow.

The realistic path

  3. Raise your rate as reviews come in, and look for long-term clients rather than one-off gigs.
