How to Report a KPLC Power Outage or Fault
By James Mwangi · Updated 12 September 2026
Check two things first
Is it a planned interruption? Kenya Power publishes a maintenance schedule, and planned work is not a fault. And are your neighbours affected? If the whole street is dark it is an area outage already being handled; if it is only your premises, the fault is likelier on your supply or your own wiring, which changes who you need.
A fallen or sparking line is an emergency
Treat any downed conductor as live. Keep people and animals well clear, do not attempt to move it, and call 97771 immediately. This is the one situation where you should call rather than use USSD or an app, because it needs to be prioritised.
What to have ready
Your account or meter number, a precise location including a landmark, when the power went out, and whether you saw or heard anything, a bang, a flash, or a line down. That detail is what gets the right crew sent.
