Do not mix up the two paybills
Kenya Power runs two separate paybills and they are one digit apart. 888888 is for postpaid monthly bills and takes your account number. 888880 is for prepaid tokens and takes your meter number. Paying the token paybill with a postpaid account number, or the reverse, sends money somewhere you did not intend. Check which type of customer you are before you pay.
Which one am I?
If you have a meter with a keypad that you type codes into, you are prepaid, and you want 888880. If a bill arrives each month by SMS, email or post, you are postpaid, and you want 888888.
Other ways to pay the same bill
The myPower app, *977#, your bank's app or USSD, or in person at a Kenya Power office. Airtel Money reaches the same 888888 paybill through interoperability.
Check the bill before you pay it
Dial *977# or open myPower to see the outstanding balance first. Postpaid bills also arrive by SMS and email each month. If a bill looks far larger than usual, check the reading before paying, because an estimated reading can be corrected.
