KPLC on *977#, SMS and the myPower App

By Dennis Kiptoo · Updated 12 September 2026

What is on the *977# menu

Prepaid services come first: buy a token (enter meter number and amount), retrieve your last tokens, and check the account. Other options report an outage and show postpaid balances. The token generated on *977# is identical to the one from the paybill.

Why this matters more than it sounds

A large share of Kenya Power customers do not use a smartphone. *977# works on any handset with no data, which makes it the most-used KPLC channel after M-PESA. If you are helping a relative buy tokens remotely, *977# is usually the simpler route to talk them through than an app install.

The myPower app

Available on Android and iOS. Buy tokens, view and pay bills, see full token history, and manage the account. Useful if you want a record of purchases over time rather than just the last few.
