Can you pay an M-PESA paybill from Equitel?
Yes. Equitel's Send Money supports sending to M-PESA and to Airtel Money, so you can pay a business or person on M-PESA from your Equity account. The reverse also works, and this is where the number 247247 comes in.
247247 is Equity's aggregator paybill. It is how money moves from M-PESA into an Equity or Equitel account. On M-PESA you choose Pay Bill, enter business number 247247, and in the account field enter either the Equity account number or the Equitel phone number you are paying. The account field is what routes the money, so 247247 is not a normal single-destination paybill, it is a gateway that reads the account number to decide where the funds land.
A note on charges
Paying from Equitel draws on your Equity account, and fees depend on the transaction type and amount. Sending to M-PESA or Airtel Money from Equitel carries a tariff by band, while transfers to other Equity accounts are free. See our Equitel charges guide for the full tables, and confirm the current fee in the app before a large payment, because Equitel's published tariffs are not always consistent.
