EMMA by Finserve: What the App Says It Does

By Arnold Ochieng · Equity Bank Kenya hub · paybillke is an independent guide and is not affiliated with Equity Bank Kenya.

EMMA is a mobile wallet published on Google Play by Finserve Africa, whose verified developer record on Google Play gives the legal entity as EQUITY GROUP HOLDINGS PLC, at Equity Centre, Hospital Road, Upper Hill, Nairobi. You reach it through the EMMA app, by dialling *765#, or through Equitel STK. It sends and receives money, pays bills, buys airtime, lends, saves, and withdraws at agents and ATMs.

What EMMA does

Finserve lists the full wallet set: send and receive money instantly, including to people who have not registered; pay electricity, water and TV bills; buy airtime for yourself or someone else; take instant loans; save; transfer to your bank account; withdraw at agents or ATMs; and view balances and monthly statements.

How new is it?

Less settled than you might assume. When paybillke read the listing on 3 October 2026 it showed a download band of 10+, one of the lowest bands Google reports, and a last update of 2 October 2026. Google does not publish a first-release date, so how long EMMA has been available is not something anyone outside Finserve can state. What the band does tell you is that very little usage has accumulated so far.

What it costs, and what is not published

Finserve says transfers to your bank account carry no extra cost and that there are no hidden fees. As at 3 October 2026 it had published no tariff table, so what a send, a withdrawal or a loan actually costs is not public. Google's listing also flags EMMA as containing ads, and its data safety panel says the app may collect location and personal information. Treat the absence of a fee schedule as a reason to check in the app before your first large transaction, not as evidence that everything is free.

It pays M-PESA paybills and tills

This is the part that matters most if you came here from a paybill page. EMMA's own menu, seen in the app on 3 October 2026, carries separate entries for Pay To Mpesa Paybill and Pay To Mpesa Till, alongside Send to M-Pesa and Send to Airtel Money. So a bill you would normally pay from M-PESA can be paid from an EMMA balance instead, without moving the money to Safaricom first. The menu keeps Equity's own rails separate from Safaricom's, with Pay with Equity Till and Pay with Equity Bill listed apart from the two M-PESA entries, so read the label before you tap: a till and a paybill are not interchangeable, and neither is an Equity one and an M-PESA one.

The rest of the menu

Also listed in the app on 3 October 2026: deposit, fund wallet, send to another EMMA user, send to a bank account, withdraw, airtime and data bundles, save, and a loan product the menu names Term Loan. That is a wallet with the usual spread rather than a single-purpose app. What the menu cannot tell you is what any of it costs, which is still unpublished.

Does EMMA have a paybill?

No, and this is worth separating from the point above, because the two are easy to blur. EMMA can pay an M-PESA paybill. EMMA does not have one. As at 3 October 2026 Finserve publishes no paybill or till number for receiving money into EMMA, paybillke lists none, and none will be added until there is an official number to verify. If you see an EMMA paybill circulating on WhatsApp, treat it as unverified however plausible the name attached to it looks.

A digit worth getting right

*765# sits one digit away from *764#, which is SisiboPay, the county revenue system used for Uasin Gishu and Eldoret parking. They are unrelated services. Dial the code yourself rather than tapping one from a forwarded message, check the digits before you confirm anything, and if the menu that answers does not identify itself as EMMA, do not continue.

Getting help

The Play listing gives support as +254 766 000 000 and support@finserve.africa, with the company at finserve.africa. Nobody from Equity, Finserve or EMMA will ask you for your PIN. Any call or message that does is a scam, however convincing the caller sounds.

Independent guide

paybillke is not Finserve Africa or Equity Group and has no commercial relationship with either. This page has two sources, both Finserve's own: the Google Play listing for EMMA, and the app's service menu seen on a handset, both on 3 October 2026. Where the two differ the page says which is which. paybillke has not yet dialled *765# to confirm it, and has not put money through any of the services described, so what they cost is still unverified. Product terms change, so confirm anything you are about to act on with Finserve directly.
