Absa Next is a digital account app for the Kenyan market, published on Google Play by Absa Group Limited rather than by Absa Bank Kenya. It is a separate product from Timiza. It opens an account on a Kenyan national ID, funds from cards across several banks, sends by PesaLink, pays Till, Paybill and Pochi la Biashara, lends instantly and runs group savings. One thing to know before you download: Absa states that Kenyan passports are not supported for registration.
The ID rule, first
Absa's own listing says accounts open with a valid Kenyan National Identification Document, and that Kenyan passports are currently not supported for account registration. If you travel on a Kenyan passport rather than holding an ID, Absa Next will not onboard you. The listing does not say what Absa's other account-opening routes accept, so ask Absa before travelling to a branch on the strength of this page. The listing's short description also reads Absa Youth Next, which suggests a youth product, but no age limit is stated anywhere on it.
What you can do with it
Open an account instantly, link your existing Absa account to reach those funds, and fund the app from debit or credit cards held at several different banks. Send money to bank accounts over PesaLink, which reaches participating member banks. Pay through Till Numbers, Paybill and Pochi la Biashara. Withdraw at any Absa ATM. Take an instant loan from the Personal Account. Save alone or in a group.
Next Coins, and what is not published
Eligible transactions earn Next Coins, which Absa says are converted to cash and credited monthly. As at 3 October 2026 Absa had not published what counts as an eligible transaction, or what a coin is worth. A rewards scheme is worth exactly what the arithmetic says it is worth, so until that rate is public, treat Next Coins as a reason to look rather than a reason to switch.
Next or Timiza?
Absa runs both, and they appear under the same Play developer account. Timiza is Absa's existing wallet, best known for its loans and already covered on this site. Next is a fuller digital account, with PesaLink, group savings and the rewards scheme. They are separate products with separate balances, so know which one your money is in before you call anyone about a transaction.
What Google's own page showed
On 3 October 2026 the listing showed a 1,000+ download band, a last update of 22 September 2026, and a rating Google's own page gave inconsistently: 3.7 in the header and 3.8 in the ratings panel, from 39 reviews. Thirty-nine reviews is far too small a base to read as a verdict either way. The data safety panel says the app may collect Messages, which is worth knowing for a banking app.

Where to get help
Absa Bank Kenya is at absabank.co.ke. The support number on the Play listing is a South African one, because the app is published under Absa Group's Johannesburg developer account. For a Kenyan account, use Absa Kenya's own published contact channels rather than the number on the store page.
