How to repay your Timiza loan

By Arnold Ochieng · Absa Bank Kenya hub · paybillke is an independent guide and is not affiliated with Absa Bank Kenya.

Use paybill 300067, and put your Timiza-registered phone number in the account field. Not your ID number, not an account number. The phone number the Timiza account is registered to, which is almost always the phone you are holding.

The steps

  1. Open M-PESA, or dial *334#.
  2. Choose Lipa na M-PESA, then Pay Bill.
  3. Business number: 300067.
  4. Account number: your Timiza-registered phone number, the one the loan was taken on.
  5. Enter the amount, enter your M-PESA PIN, and confirm.
  6. Keep the confirmation SMS until the app shows the loan cleared.

You can also repay without leaving Timiza

The paybill is the route most people use, but it is not the only one. You can repay inside the Timiza app, and on *848# itself. If your M-PESA balance is already where the money is, the paybill is fewer steps. If the money is sitting in the Timiza wallet, repay in the app and skip the transfer fee.

Repaying early is rewarded

Absa lists incentives for early repayment, good transacting behaviour and loyalty among Timiza's features. So clearing before the due date is not just avoiding a penalty, it feeds the limit you get offered next time. If you have the money on day 12 of a 30-day cycle, there is no reason to sit on it.

If it does not reflect

Repayments normally show within minutes. If yours has not after an hour:

  1. Check the account field in your M-PESA SMS. A mistyped phone number is the most common cause, and the money sits unallocated rather than disappearing.
  2. Log out of the Timiza app and back in. A stale session showing an old balance is the second most common cause.
  3. Call the Timiza line, not the bank line: 0709 213000 or 020 4254000, or email Timiza.Ke@absa.africa. Have the M-PESA transaction code ready.

Do not pay twice while the first payment is being traced. On a short-cycle loan, a duplicate payment is money you then have to ask for back.

Do not confuse it with the bank paybill

Timiza is 300067. The Absa bank account paybill is 303030 and an Absa loan account is 300068. These are separate ledgers inside the same institution, and moving money between them after the fact takes days, not minutes. Our guide to all four Absa paybills lays them out side by side.
