How to Find Your School's Paybill or Business Code

By Arnold Ochieng · School Fees Kenya hub · paybillke is an independent guide and is not affiliated with School Fees Kenya.

Every school that collects fees electronically has a business or paybill number, and an account format you must follow exactly. The fastest source is the school bursar, but both KCB and Co-op Bank also publish school code lookups so you can confirm the number and the format before you pay.

Where to look

Ask the school. The bursar's office gives you the paybill number and the exact account format for that school.

KCB schools. KCB collects through Lipa na KCB paybill 522533 and Lipa Karo M-PESA paybill 522123, with the school and student reference as directed by the school.

Co-op schools. Co-op collects through M-PESA paybill 400222, with the account in the format SCHOOLCODE#STUDENTNUMBER, for example 1059#123456789, and Co-op publishes a school business codes directory.

The account format matters most

Most failed fee payments are not wrong paybills, they are wrong accounts. Whether it is an admission number, or a school code and student number joined by a hash with no spaces, copy it exactly as the school gives it. Send a small test amount first if you are unsure, then the balance once the first reflects.
