Sifuna's Linda Mwananchi paybill 3033049 verified: KES 6.5M+ raised, registered as E Sifuna, briefly shut down by Safaricom in July
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna's Linda Mwananchi civic-mobilisation paybill 3033049 is verified as active. Registered under "E Sifuna" because the movement is not a party. Safaricom briefly deactivated the paybill in July, then restored it. KES 6.5M+ raised per Sifuna's own disclosures.
What changed
- Sifuna unveiled paybill 3033049 on 21 July 2026 as the Linda Mwananchi movement's public donations channel. Account reference is your own Safaricom phone number. Suggested contribution KES 10; larger amounts accepted.
- The paybill is registered under "E Sifuna" (Edwin Sifuna's official name) because Linda Mwananchi has not been registered as a political party under the Political Parties Act. Kenyan M-PESA paybills for unregistered entities must attach to a legal person or a registered business.
- First 12 hours (per Sifuna, reported by People Daily): KES 519,144 from 9,419 contributors, average contribution KES 55, range KES 1 to KES 5,000. First 36 hours (per Sifuna, reported by The Star): KES 2.21M raised. Later cumulative (per Sifuna): over KES 6.5M.
- Safaricom briefly deactivated the paybill in late July 2026. Sifuna alleged the deactivation followed "orders from above." Safaricom restored the paybill within days after public pressure and Linda Mwananchi confirmed the restoration on X ("we are so back"). As of 9 September 2026 the paybill is active.
- The movement's political visibility has attracted lookalike scam paybills. Only 3033049 is verified. paybillke has added the Sifuna guide to help Kenyans distinguish the real paybill from imitators piggybacking on the "Sifuna" or "Linda Mwananchi" names.
Why it matters
The Sifuna paybill is one of the most-searched Kenyan political payment channels of the 2027 cycle. Kenyans looking for it are landing on unverified pages, some of which promote lookalike paybills that intercept small donations. Verifying paybill 3033049 as authentic (registered under E Sifuna, sourced against the movement's own donations page and X account, cross-checked against People Daily, The Star and Kenya Times reporting) removes the scam-attack surface and gives Kenyans a payments-integrity source they can share.
What to do
- If you want to donate, use paybill 3033049 with your own Safaricom phone number as the account reference. Any other paybill claiming to be Sifuna's or Linda Mwananchi's is a lookalike scam.
- If a stranger DMs you a "new" paybill number for Sifuna or Linda Mwananchi, cross-check against lindamwananchi.com/donate or the @LindaMwananchi_ X account before sending money.
- Linda Mwananchi donations are not tax-deductible. Do not include them on your KRA return. Only donations to registered charities holding a KRA tax-exemption certificate qualify for deduction.
- For journalists and civic-tech researchers: the full verification chain and rolling fundraising totals are on the paybillke Sifuna guide, with every figure sourced inline.
