Edwin Sifuna has launched a party, The Equitable Party. It publishes no paybill, and 3033049, the Sifuna number already circulating, belongs to the Linda Mwananchi Movement, which is a different thing.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna unveiled The Equitable Party in Nairobi on 4 October 2026 and was declared its leader and presidential candidate for 2027. No payment number has been published for the new party. paybillke lists none and will not add one until there is an official number to verify.
What changed
- The Equitable Party, abbreviated TEP, was unveiled at a launch in Nairobi on Sunday 4 October 2026. Sifuna was declared party leader and presidential candidate. The party takes green and yellow colours, the scales of justice as its symbol, and the slogan Tusawazishe.
- Leaders associated with the Linda Mwananchi Movement attended, among them Babu Owino, Boni Khalwale, Richard Onyonka, James Orengo, George Natembeya and Godfrey Osotsi. Reporting indicates TEP is expected to sit inside the Linda Mwananchi coalition rather than replace it.
- Separately, the Political Disputes Tribunal ruled that the Linda Mwananchi Movement may reserve its name, overturning the registrar of political parties. The movement and the party are therefore two live, separate things carrying the same public face.
- TEP has published no M-PESA paybill, till or account. paybillke lists none for it.
- The number already in circulation under Sifuna's name is 3033049. It is registered to E Sifuna and it is the Linda Mwananchi Movement number, not The Equitable Party. paybillke verified it on 9 September 2026 against the movement's own donations page.
Why it matters
A new party with a well known face and no published payment number is the exact gap a fake paybill fills. Two things make this one sharper than usual. The first is that a real, verified, Sifuna-linked number already exists, so a scammer does not need to invent anything: circulating 3033049 under the new party's name would send money to a real destination that simply is not the one the sender intended, and the M-PESA confirmation would look plausible enough to pass a glance. The second is that political money moves in a hurry, on social media, at launch moments, from people who do not want to miss a deadline. If you mean to give to the party rather than to the movement, wait for the party itself to publish a number, and treat anything forwarded to you before then as unverified no matter who sent it.
What to do
- There is no published Equitable Party paybill as at 5 October 2026. If you are shown one, it has not been confirmed by anybody, and paybillke has not listed it.
- If you are paying 3033049, know what you are paying. It is the Linda Mwananchi Movement, registered to E Sifuna. The account number is your own Safaricom phone number.
- Read the name on the M-PESA confirmation before you confirm, and again after. It tells you who actually received the money, whatever the poster or the WhatsApp forward said.
- Party membership and nomination fees are a separate matter from donations, and each party sets its own. Check the party you are joining rather than assuming another party's figures carry over.
