GOtv is the budget-friendly cousin of DStv — same parent company (MultiChoice), same SuperSport content at lower tiers, but distributed over UHF terrestrial signal instead of satellite. That makes it cheaper to install and slightly more weather-resistant during Kenya's long rains. Paying GOtv via M-PESA takes under a minute once you know the paybill (423655) and your IUC number. The step-by-step

  1. Open M-PESA. SIM toolkit, M-PESA app, or Safaricom OneApp — any of them works.
  2. Select Lipa na M-PESA → Pay Bill. Don't use Buy Goods (that's for retail tills, not paybills).
  3. Enter the business number: 423655. This is the official MultiChoice GOtv Kenya paybill. Verify each digit — paybill scams target near-look-alike numbers.

Upgrading or downgrading your package

GOtv lets you change packages mid-month. To upgrade (e.g. from Plus to Supa for a big match), pay the difference between the two packages prorated over the remaining days. The My GOtv app calculates this for you. Pay via paybill 423655 with the calculated amount.

To downgrade, you don't need to do anything immediately — just pay the lower package's monthly fee at next renewal. The downgrade takes effect at the start of the next billing period.

If 15 minutes pass with no reactivation:

  3. Paying mid-month and expecting bonus days. GOtv counts a paid period forward from the day of last expiry, not the day of payment. Pay before expiry to avoid a coverage gap.
  4. Off-by-100 amounts. Plus is KES 1,150, not KES 1,100. Max is KES 1,750, not KES 1,700. Double-check the digit before sending.
  5. Paying a kiosk till that says "GOtv". Some agents collect cash via their own till and forward the payment manually. Risk: the agent forgets, takes a cut, or makes an error. Prefer paying paybill 423655 directly when possible.

UHF vs satellite — what GOtv users should know

GOtv uses UHF terrestrial broadcast — meaning the signal comes from a transmitter tower, not a satellite. Coverage is best in towns and cities with a transmitter within roughly 80km. Outside that radius, signal degrades. If you live more than 100km from a major town and the signal struggles, GOtv may not be the right product — DStv satellite or StarTimes (which uses a similar UHF model) are alternatives.
