Topping up other mobile games with M-PESA

One test decides it. If the game sells its currency inside the Android app as a Google Play in-app purchase, M-PESA Xpress billing can pay for it. If the game sends you to its own website to top up, you are on that site’s checkout, and M-PESA is usually not there.
The test, in practice
- Open the game on Android and go to its shop or top-up screen.
- Pick an amount and go to pay.
- If a Google Play sheet appears, you are on Google Play billing, and M-PESA Xpress will be among the options if you have set it up.
- If a browser opens, or the game asks for a player ID on a website, you have left Google Play and M-PESA is unlikely to be offered.
Why many games push you off Google Play

Where this comes from
Two primary sources carry this page. Safaricom’s own Google Play and M-PESA FAQ documents M-PESA Xpress billing, and Apple’s own payment methods page for Kenya lists what an Apple Account can use here. Both were read on 29 September 2026. We publish no reseller number on any page in this cluster, and we explain why on the gift cards page.

Frequently asked
Can I buy Free Fire diamonds with M-PESA?
If you buy them inside the Android app through Google Play, M-PESA Xpress billing applies. If you use the publisher’s own top-up website, you are on their checkout and we have not verified what it accepts.
Why is the publisher website cheaper?
Because Google takes a cut of in-app purchases. Publishers who sell direct avoid that and sometimes pass some of it on.
How do I know which one I am using?
If a Google Play payment sheet appears, it is Google Play. If a browser opens or you are asked for a player ID on a website, it is not.
