How to buy Minecraft in Kenya, and which version you are actually buying

Which Minecraft you buy decides how you can pay for it. The Android version, bought through Google Play, can be paid with M-PESA Xpress billing. The Java Edition for PC is sold by Mojang and Microsoft directly, not through Google Play, so the M-PESA route does not reach it.

The editions are not interchangeable

Minecraft on Android is bought in the Play Store. This is the one M-PESA can pay for.

Minecraft Java Edition is a PC product bought from Mojang or Microsoft. Different store, different checkout.

Console versions are bought through the PlayStation or Xbox stores.

Buying one does not give you the others automatically, and a world created in one is not always playable in another. Check which edition your friends are on before you pay for anything.

The M-PESA route, when it applies

  1. On Android, set up M-PESA Xpress billing in the Play Store once.
  2. Find Minecraft in the Play Store.
  3. Buy it and pay with M-PESA Xpress.
  4. Approve the PIN push.

What we have not confirmed

We have not verified what payment methods Mojang, Microsoft, PlayStation or Xbox accept from Kenyan accounts. Do not assume M-PESA works there because it works on Google Play. The which-stores page in this hub says exactly what we did and did not check.

Can I buy Minecraft with M-PESA?
