Stopping Skiza Tunes, and why you are charged KES 1.50 a day
By David Wachira · Safaricom services hub · paybillke is an independent guide and is not affiliated with Safaricom services.
Send STOP to 900. That unsubscribes you from Skiza. You can also dial *811#, choose Manage Active Tunes and delete them, or send DELETE followed by the tune code to 811.
Why the charge keeps appearing
Skiza is a daily-renewing subscription, charged at about KES 1.50 per tune per day and renewed at midnight. That is why it never shows up as one big charge you would notice, and why a tune activated once during a promotion can quietly run for a year. Deleting the tune is what stops the renewal; ignoring it does not.
Three ways to stop it
- Send STOP to 900. The blunt instrument, and the one to use if you are not sure what you are subscribed to.
- Dial *811# and choose Manage Active Tunes, then delete the ones you do not want. Use this if you want to keep one and drop the rest.
- Send DELETE and the tune code to 811. For example, DELETE 5050005 to 811. Use this if you know exactly which tune is charging you.
There is no refund for the unused days
Because it renews daily rather than monthly, deleting a tune stops the next charge rather than refunding the current one. There is nothing to reclaim and no point calling about it. The money worth saving is all in the future, which is an argument for doing it now rather than after another month.
If you actually want one
Dial *811# to search and download tunes, or send SKIZA and the tune code to 811. The same daily charge applies, which is fine if it is a choice rather than a thing that happened to you.
