Please Call Me and Reverse Call, when you have no airtime

By David Wachira · Safaricom services hub · paybillke is an independent guide and is not affiliated with Safaricom services.

Dial *140* then the number then #. For example *140*0722000000#. That sends a Please Call Me (Nipigie) asking them to call you, and it costs you nothing.

What it is for

Please Call Me exists for the moment you have no airtime and need to reach someone. It is one of the oldest features on the network and still one of the most used, because the alternative to a free message asking for a call is no contact at all.

How to send one

  1. Dial *140* followed by the number, then #.
  2. So for 0722 000 000, that is *140*0722000000#.
  3. Press call. The recipient gets a message asking them to call you.

There is a daily cap

Safaricom limits how many free Please Call Me messages a line can send in a day, which is why the service exists at all rather than being abused as free messaging. We are not publishing the exact number because we could not confirm the current figure, and a stale cap would be more annoying than no cap. You will know you have hit it when the message stops going through.

Reverse Call is the other half

Reverse Call lets you place a call that the person you are calling pays for. They are asked to accept the charge before it connects, so it is not something that can be done to someone without their agreement. Useful in the same situation as Please Call Me, when the conversation cannot wait for them to call back.
