Finserve Africa has a mobile wallet on Google Play called EMMA, with its own onboarding code, *765#. Its listing shows a 10+ download band, so almost nobody is using it yet.

EMMA is a mobile wallet published by Finserve Africa, whose Google Play developer record names Equity Group Holdings PLC. Read on 3 October 2026, the listing showed a last update of 2 October 2026 and a 10+ download band. It onboards by app, by *765#, or through Equitel STK.

What changed

  • A wallet called EMMA is live on Google Play under the developer name Finserve Africa. Its verified developer record gives the legal entity as EQUITY GROUP HOLDINGS PLC, at Equity Centre, Hospital Road, Upper Hill, Nairobi.
  • Read on 3 October 2026, the listing showed a last update of 2 October 2026 and a download band of 10+, one of the lowest bands Google reports. Google does not publish a first-release date, so how long EMMA has been available is not something anyone outside Finserve can say.
  • Onboarding is listed three ways: the app, the USSD code *765#, or Equitel STK.
  • The listed features are the full wallet set: send and receive money including to people who have not registered, pay electricity, water and TV bills, buy airtime, take instant loans, save, transfer to a bank account, and withdraw at agents or ATMs.
  • Finserve says transfers to your bank account carry no extra cost and that there are no hidden fees. No tariff table is published, so what a send or a withdrawal actually costs is not public. Google flags the listing as containing ads, and its data safety panel says the app may collect location and personal information.
  • The app menu, seen on a handset on 3 October 2026, carries Pay To Mpesa Paybill and Pay To Mpesa Till as separate entries, alongside Send to M-Pesa and Send to Airtel Money. So EMMA reaches Safaricom rails directly rather than only Equity ones. It keeps those apart from Pay with Equity Till and Pay with Equity Bill, which are listed separately.
  • EMMA publishes no M-PESA paybill or till number of its own. Paying to an M-PESA paybill and having one are different things, and only the first is true. paybillke has not added a number to the directory and will not until there is one to verify.

Why it matters

A new wallet with a fresh USSD code is the gap where fake numbers circulate, and this one is worth care for a specific reason: *765# sits one digit from *764#, which is SisiboPay, the county revenue system used for Uasin Gishu and Eldoret parking. They are unrelated services, and a mistyped digit on a payment menu is not a harmless error. The second thing worth noting is what the listing does not contain. There is no fee schedule, which means nobody outside Finserve can yet say what EMMA costs to use, and a claim of no hidden fees is not the same as a published tariff. Equity also already reaches customers through several other channels, so if something goes wrong the first question support will ask is which product you were actually in. Knowing that before you need to is cheaper than working it out afterwards.

What to do

  • The listing showed a 10+ download band on 3 October 2026, so EMMA is at a very early stage. If you are not in a hurry, there is no cost to waiting until a fee schedule is published.
  • Dial *765# yourself rather than following a code from a WhatsApp forward, and check you have not typed *764#, which is a different service entirely. If the menu that answers does not identify itself as EMMA, do not continue.
  • Nobody from Equity, Finserve or EMMA will ask for your PIN. Treat any call or message that does as a scam, whichever app it claims to be about.
  • The Play listing gives support as +254 766 000 000 and support@finserve.africa. If you are given a different number by anyone, check it against finserve.africa before calling it.
